Usui Reiki

Reiki is the flow of Universal life force energy throughout our bodies in a healing way. In fact, “REI”  means universal and “KI” means life force in the ancient Japanese traditions the Reiki takes is roots from. Reiki flows from the universal energy that surrounds us all, through the hands of the Reiki practitioner and into the body of the participant. Reiki uses positive energy of the universe to bring peace and harmony to your body, mind and spirit. This is the energy within us and all around us. It is the energy the all living beings are formed from.

This life force- has been measured scientifically. It surrounds every cell and seed. Every living thing on this planet from man to monkey from acorns to oak trees, from plankton to Dolphin is molded and controlled by energy fields. This life-force energy is known as the basic blueprint of all life forms on earth.

Reiki’s Health Benefits

Reiki accelerates the natural healing process. It works on a cellular level. Reiki is a powerful, yet gentle energy. It has been used for centuries to heal virtually every known illness and injury-heart disease and cancer, skin problems, cuts, broken bones, headaches, colds, flu, sunburn, insect bits, insomnia, lack of confidence, ect. Reiki has been known to overcome stress, unwanted habits, and even helps to achieve life goals.

Reiki does not replace traditional western medical treatment; it compliments it by balancing and energizing the body. The practitioner does not diagnose. Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that allows the body to experience health and wellness and heal itself at an accelerated rate.

REIKI LEVELS I,II,III

There are several discrepancies between the amounts of Levels taught by different Masters. In these classes, 4 Level Reiki are taught with 4 attunements and 5 symbols. No ones Reiki is any better than anyone else’s,  no ones energy is better than anyone else’s. Reiki is independent of any one teacher or student. Reiki energy lasts for your whole life. If not used, it will remain dormant until called upon by using the power symbol. Choku Rei.

Level I

The student received an attunement, or initiation, to Reiki energy by a Reiki Master. This allows the Reiki energy to flow from the universe with the capacity to greater healing ability. The basic Reiki energy is activated during the attunement and the student is given the energy for hand-on healing. The student learns to give instructions in the traditional hand positions, techniques for hands-on treatment for the Self and for others. A history of Reiki is provided, as well as the principles that guide Reiki Practitioners, and the symbol the student needs to access the energy.

Level II

The attunement the student received in Level 2 increases the strength of the student’s Reiki energy. This involves learning the symbols that are used in advanced Reiki healing work in distant or absentee healing.

Level III

This Level is for those who want to further their Reiki studies but have no desire to teach. Advanced theories and techniques are taught. The student is attuned to a higher level and increases once more the student’s energies. This attunement dramatically affects the personal growth and spiritual awareness.

Master Level

To train this level the student must have a strong desire to teach Reiki. You must have as sound background in the practical use of Reiki and you must know Reiki works from personal hands on experience-in you own life, from practical experience and from treating others.

History of Reiki

Makao Usui

Usui Sensie was the originator of what we today call Reiki. He was born on August 15,1865 in the village of Taniaimira in the Yamagata district of Gifu prefecture Kyoto. Mikao Usui studied in a Tendai Buddhist monastery school entering at an early age. He was also a student of different Martial Arts. His memorial states that he was a talented hard working student, he liked to read and his knowledge of medicine, psychology, fortune telling and theology of religions around the world, including the Kyoten (Buddhist Bible) was vast. He married (his wife’s name was Sadako) and had a son and daughter.

Usui studied and traveled to western countries and China several times, to study western ways.

During his life Usui held many different professions such as a public servant, office worker, industrialist, politician’s secretary, missionary and supervisor of convicts.

At some point in his life he became a Tendai Buddhist Monk/Priest. On several occasions he took a form of meditation lasting 21 days. On his memorial it says that at one time this took place on Mount Kurama. This is where he is supposed to have been given the inspiration for his system of healing – Reiki. It is very likely that he incorporated ideas and knowledge about healing from other systems both spiritual and physical, like Chinese Medicine, other Eastern healing systems like Chi Gong, the Japanese equivalent to Kiko, acupuncture and others.

Usui found the healing techniques contained within his spiritual system worked well on various ailments. In April 1922, he opened his first school/clinic in Harajuku Tokyo. His school/clinic was formed not just for the spiritual teaching but it was a way for people to obtain healing. The Usui teachings included teaching people how to heal themselves (a very central point still in Reiki today).

In 1923 a severe earthquake shook Tokyo and Yokohama. Over 140,000 deaths were reported. Usui and his students started to give healing in the area and the demand and need for Reiki was enormous and as a result of his work he became even more famous.

In 1925 Usui had become so busy that he had to open a new, larger school outside Tokyo in Nakano. As he traveled widely, his senior students would continue his work when he was away from his school/clinic.

Makao Usui passed away on March 9.1926 at the age of 62. He is buried in the Saihoji Temple in Suginamu-Ku, Tokyo. Later his students created and erected a large stone next to his grave describing his lifes work.

Chujiro Hayashi

Dr hayashi was an ex-naval officer in the Japanese Navy and a Naval doctor. He started his Reiki training with Usui Sensei in 1925, at 47 years of age. It is believed he is one of the last Rieki Masters trained by Usui. Following the 1st training he left the Usui School and started a small clinic in Tokyo named “Hayashi Reiki Kenkyu-kai”.

Hauashi compiled his own 40 page manual on how to use the hand positions for certain ailments. This manual may have been given to his students. During his work with Reiki Dr. Hayashi initiated about 17 Rieki Masters, including Mrs.Takata.

Chujiro Hayashi passed away on May 10th,1940.

Hawayo Takata

Mrs. Takata was born on December 24th 1900 in Kauai, Hawaii.  She traveled to Japan  on family business and In the spring of  1936,Mrs Takata received her 1st degree Reiki. She worked with Dr Hayashi for one year and then received her 2nd degree Reiki. Mrs Takat retured to Hawaii in 1937, soon followed by Dr Hayashi, who helped her establish Reiki in Hawaii. In 1938,Dr hayashi initiated Hawayo Takata as a Reiki Master. She was the last Reiki Master Dr, Hayashi initiated. Between her death in 1980, Mrs Takata initiated 22 Reiki Masters. The original 22 teachers have taught others. In the decade since her death, Reiki has spread rapidly in the West and East and is now practiced threw out the World. There is now tens of thousands of Reiki Masters and millions of practitioners. What a legacy she has left us!
